Wrok With Me
Solo Performance
David Dai’s solo performances blend traditional erhu practice with contemporary expression, drawing from improvisation, cross-cultural influences, and modern concert presentation. His performances range from intimate acoustic settings to experimental and interdisciplinary contexts, creating a distinctive musical voice that bridges tradition and new artistic exploration.
Creative Projects
Collaborations
Collaboration is a central part of David’s artistic practice. He regularly works with composers, improvisers, ensembles, dancers, and multidisciplinary artists across a wide range of creative projects. Through these collaborations, he explores new sonic possibilities for the erhu while engaging with diverse musical and cultural perspectives.
David develops creative projects that combine performance, storytelling, improvisation, and cross-cultural artistic exchange. These projects often explore themes of identity, migration, memory, and contemporary Asian-Australian artistic expression through collaborative and experimental approaches.
Commissions
Workshops
David is available for commissioned performances and creative collaborations for festivals, concerts, exhibitions, educational programs, and interdisciplinary projects. He is particularly interested in projects that expand the role of the erhu within contemporary, experimental, and cross-cultural contexts.
David delivers workshops and educational programs for schools, community organisations, and music institutions across Australia. His workshops introduce participants to the erhu, Chinese music traditions, improvisation, and intercultural music-making through engaging and accessible experiences tailored to different age groups and backgrounds.
